They formed an international bridal couple, she a beautiful Cantonese bride, he her purely Dutch, but above all proud groom. Just before the start of the ceremony, they both appeared at the wedding venue dressed in original Cantonese costumes. And after a warm welcome by their international bridal company, they turned into a fairytale wedding couple, ready to make that special promise to each other. And I had the honor of making their love ‘official’.
Earlier, during my fact-check interview, just a few weeks before the wedding day, I visited them in their cozy apartment in Amsterdam, where I sampled a mix of her oriental roots and his down-to-earth Dutch way of life. It was literally a fact-check interview, as the bride carefully captured all the highlights of their relationship. From their first meeting to the wedding day, in days, hours, minutes, seconds even. Everything completely chronologically described in WRITING and neatly printed and framed under the name: ‘Our Love Story’
That list had a prominent place on the table during my visit. Love facts, nothing more than that, they were the guiding principle, not only during my visit, but also during the ceremony. I guided the guests through all these facts in the bridal couple’s personal love story, to the final climax: their beautiful, personal wedding vows followed by a ‘Yes, I do’, spoken with full conviction.
She lived and studied in the Netherlands, close to where he lived and worked. The first love fact was that Superlike on Tinder, when he traveled past her address by train. A super like? From a Dutch boy? At a very late hour of the day? Should she respond to that? While she had decided in advance not to end up in a relationship with a Dutch boy during her studies and stay in the Netherlands. But from her heart she still answered: and that was the first love fact on the document in the list.
And so many more followed, all sweet, fun, unforgettable love facts, carefully recorded by the bride.
And I went through them all during my special ‘calendar speech’. I presented their love story as an audiobook. The guests didn’t have to do anything other than just listen and enjoy. And they did! Every now and then I checked with the bride to see if everything was correct. Her sweet nods and nervous smiles confirmed it all. And the guests hung on my every word. And Mr. Groom? He was actually a bit speechless, not because of his bride’s carefully kept records, but mainly because of her fragile, beautiful appearance! His bride! Wow, he couldn’t be more happy about the fact that his train had passed her house at the right time and that his Superlike had touched her heart at that moment! No coincidence, it was just meant to be!
The place where he proposed to her – one of the super love facts – couldn’t be more appropriate than close to a real Dutch Mill! Love fact number 6: Mr. Groom on his knee while asking her the question. Love fact number 9 on the list, was on their wedding day, when they tied the knot and lived happily ever after.
